When booking your stay directly with Sands Resorts to stay at the Ocean Dunes Waterpark Myrtle Beach you will get free admission to not 1 but 2 water parks: The Sands Resort Water Park (Seasonal and Sands Guests Only) and the Wild Water and Wheels Water Park (Open To Public, Based on Availability and ONLY Seasonal). The Sands Resorts Water Park is just a 2 minute walk form Ocean Dunes. If you want to stay where the water park is technically located you will need to check out the Sand Dunes Resort and Spa via Sands Resorts just 453 feet away. Both water parks combined provide you access to at least 7 plus water slides, multiple kiddie attractions for under 48″, a wave pool, spray waterfall, lazy rivers and a bubble pool. Although you definitely find water play access understand that Wild Water and Wheels is 14ish miles away from the resort and can be up to a 30 minute drive in traffic. The overall talk is that both water parks are not that big which makes for an overcrowded situation. Regardless, it can be fun for the kids. So here’s the rundown: The Ocean Dunes Resort and Water Park will give you access to 2 indoor pools, 6 outdoor pools, and a kids playground/water play area within the Sands Resort. Wild Water and Wheels will give you access to 2 tube slides, 4 speed slides and 3 mat slides. For kiddie attractions you will find an open kiddie pool area for kids to slide and play, another area with more small slides and a waterfall entrance into a cave and yet another kiddie area with a raindrop fountain, mountain slide and a larger, gang plank slide. Wild Water and Wheels will also have a wave pool with 4 foot waves,a 950 ft. lazy river with waterfalls and raindrop fountains and an adult only lounge pool that you can submerge a chair into – the whirlpool bubbles are pretty cool there. Aside from the water factor you can also enjoy Go-Karts (different kinds for all ages).

Ocean Dunes Resort Accommodations

Let’s talk about the rooms. The accommodations at the Myrtle Beach Ocean Dunes Resort consist of no view, oceanview and oceanfront standard rooms (up to 4 guests) and suites (up to 6 guests). The suites have full kitchens. The villas (up to 8 guests) offer 2 bedrooms and full kitchens. To be honest, “some” aspects of this property are 2.5 star quality and because of that don’t let someone talk you into booking here if you would be upset with the consequences that sometimes come along with 2.5 star quality. The old saying goes “You get what you pay for” and it’s true. I’ve been a travel agent for many years and it’s hard to contain myself when I run into someone who made the decision to reserve at a 2 star property thinking it was a great rate only to find out they encounter many problems when they get there. I feel for them I really do but get in the habit of doing your research. Trip Advisor is a great tool for that purpose. There’s nothing worse than being on vacation and running into problems but when you book a $65 a night hotel stay at a 2 star property you can pretty much expect to run into problems with cleanliness, smells, mold, broken tiles, stained carpet, etc. That is not to say this property will cost you $65 nightly or that you will find unkempt things here however some people do (it costs more than that during high season and ranges from $159 to over $200 nightly because it’s on the beach).

Here are some tips when reserving: You will NOT get water park access unless booking directly with sandsresorts.com. When asking for an Ocean Dunes Tower 2 Suite, you will find the lazy river nearby. The oceanfront king “corner” rooms tend to be nicer. Some accommodations here are individually owned so make sure you ask for an updated one as decor may vary. Sunrise views are best on floors 4 and higher. When asking for an Ocean Dunes Tower 1, you will be closer to the ocean. The elevators tend to be slow. Ask for a “newly renovated” room as some are not as new.
