When booking directly through Sands Resorts to stay at the Sand Dunes Resort and Water Park you will get free admission to TWO water parks: The Sands Resort Water Park (Sands Guests Only) and the Wild Water and Wheels Water Park (Open To Public, Based on Availability and ONLY Seasonal). Both of these water parks offer water fun but be aware that Wild Water and Wheels is about a 30 minute drive from the resort. However, you will find the Sands Water Park on the grounds of the Sand Dunes Resort in Myrtle Beach. Enjoy a lazy river, multiple slides and plenty of kiddie water fun as well. Between both water park attractions there are a variety of water slides, various kiddie attractions (48″ and under) and water spraying. Keep in mind there are reports that both water parks tend to be overcrowded and here’s why: You have 1 that is open to the public and the other being shared among a total of 6 sister Sands properties. The amenities, however, are endless. Kids love it here. The Sand Dunes Resort Myrtle Beach SC also includes 2 pools and an indoor pool on top of the water park. If you want to stay at a Sands Resorts property in Myrtle Beach this one would be the top pick over all 6 sister Sands properties. The Wild Water and Wheels water park is nice because it gives you access to numerous water slides (tube, speed and mat style). Small children will enjoy the kiddie pool with small slides. Everyone in the family will enjoy the wave pool and 950 square foot lazy river combined with waterfalls and fountains. There is even an adult only lounge pool with whirlpool like bubbles. The Go-Karts here are nice as well because there are different sizes for all ages.

The Sands Dunes Resort Accommodations

The accommodations at the Myrtle Beach Sand Dunes Resort and Water Park range from standard efficiencies and rooms along with 1, 2 and 3 bedroom suites. The efficiencies are oceanfront and provides 2 long double beds, fridge, microwave, coffee maker and a private balcony. The standard rooms with 2 queens are oceanfront and also come with a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and private balcony. The 1 Bedroom Suites are either side-view or oceanfront. The bedding consists of 2 long double beds, a kitchenette with stove-top, fridge, coffee maker and microwave oven as well as a sofa bed in the living/dining room. The 2 bedroom suite which is ocean-view and has 2 extra long double beds in each bedroom, sleeper sofa in the living area, dining area and full kitchen. You will also find 2 baths and a washer/dryer. The 3 bedroom suites are ocean-view and has up to 5 extra long double beds, a sleeper sofa in the living area, kitchenette, 2 baths and a washer/dryer. There is also another 3 bedroom suite. The only difference in this one is it will have 3 baths and a king bedroom along with 2 long double beds in each of the other bedrooms. Lastly, all suites will have private balconies. Garden view rooms are also mentioned at this property but I would recommend a room with a water view.

Tips for you: Book through sandsresorts.com to have access to water park(s) and other amenities. Stay away from the elevators during check in and check out times. The Garden View rooms should be named “Garage View”.

Freebies are always subject to change but I really don’t know of any other entity offering so many perks: Golf at Diamondback Golf Course, Sightseeing Cruise, Ocean Drive Pavilion Amusement Park Admission. They also have summer magic shows for the kiddos. Always check with the front desk or concierge desk before making plans as freebies are subject to change and based on availability.

Bottom line is: The Ocean Forest Plaza Sands Resort and Waterpark is not technically a “water resort” in the sense that it will be right outside your door step but, again, it does offer the use of the Sands Water Park at the Sand Dunes Resort not too far away. Combined with all of the other water features that each sister resort has you will have a multitude of water options to choose from.

Guest Room Perks

Sands Resort properties in Myrtle Beach are a mixed bag of reviews to say the least but to stay at the Sand Dunes Resort at Myrtle Beach means access to tons of kid friendly amenities AND the Sands Water Park is on-site. If I didn’t have children, I wouldn’t consider it, though. Consider your options as you shop around.
